Do not stop at the headline
A new benefit can sound generous while adding merchant restrictions or shorter reset periods. Read the current issuer terms before changing your valuation of the card.
A useful way to carry this into your own wallet
A benefit change is not just a news headline. It can change your reset calendar, enrollment, eligible merchants, annual-fee math, and whether the card still deserves a spot in your wallet.
Three questions worth asking
- Did the amount or reset schedule change?
- Did the annual fee change too?
- Does your old tracking setup still match the new terms?

Recalculate your personal value
If an annual fee rises or a credit changes, update the benefits you realistically expect to use. Yesterday’s keeper card does not automatically remain tomorrow’s keeper card.
Check effective dates
Benefit changes may begin immediately, at renewal, or on a specific calendar date. The transition period matters, especially when old and new benefits overlap.
Update your tracker
Once the terms are clear, update amounts, reset schedules and notes. A tracker is only useful when it reflects the card you have now rather than the card you remember from last year.
Explore the Netcarda card library, then track the benefits you actually use in the free tracker.
