Start with benefits that reset monthly
Monthly credits are unforgiving because unused value usually does not roll forward. Review them first, then move to quarterly, semiannual and annual benefits.
A useful way to carry this into your own wallet
Month-end should be a quick scan, not a panic attack. Look at benefits with monthly resets, confirm pending credits, and ignore benefits whose window is not closing yet.
Three questions worth asking
- Which monthly benefits still have value remaining?
- Which qualifying purchases are waiting for a credit to post?
- Is any enrollment or merchant rule blocking the benefit?

Check pending transactions
A purchase near the end of a benefit period may not post immediately. Read the issuer terms for timing rules and avoid assuming that a swipe at 11:58 p.m. is a time machine.
Look one cycle ahead
The best monthly review is not only backward-looking. Check what becomes available next month so you can combine eligible purchases with plans you already have.
Keep proof when the rules are complicated
For benefits that require enrollment or specific merchants, keep confirmation details until the credit posts. If something goes sideways, future-you will appreciate present-you being unusually organized.
